TIMO KINNUNEN AND THE BUDAPEST IMPROVISERS ORCHESTRA (BIO)
JAZZAJ AT TRANSPARENT SOUND
The JazzaJ concert series and workshop started in 2011, uniting the Hungarian improvisational music scene. The aim was to create bonds and to introduce on the same platform the musicians of the free jazz, noise, experimental folk and classical genres, who usually create independently, isolated from each other. The Budapest Improvisers Orchestra grew out of such a cooperation network as well. The orchestra was formed based on the initiative of Ernő Zoltán Rubik and Péter Ajtai, in order to perform avant-garde open form works, free improvisations and its own compositions. The members include composers, classical musicians playing contemporary music, and artists from the free jazz scene: Péter Ajtai, János Bali, Bálint Bolcsó, Endre Kertész, Gergely Kovács, Gergő Kováts, Ernő Rubik, Dániel Váczi. For this occasion they will perform an improvisative concert with accordion artist Timo Kinnunen, one of the most notable figures of Finnish contemporary music.
Timu Kinnunen is one of the leading figures of Finnish contemporary music. He is the founder of the Viitasaari Festival, and John Cage visited Finland following his invitation. He has premiered more than one hundred solo and chamber music works and has cooperated with composers Vinko Globokar, John Cage, Astor Piazzolla, Alvin Curran and Jukka Tiensuu. Kinnunen is also a remarkable improvisational artist, with surprising and unique performances. He sees the world with a certain liberty, and his extensive background in music, sharp eyes, gentle and lively humour is refreshing for all his fellow musicians.
